Hit Tonka for super moon chaos last night. The evening time slot was the only one I had available, so I took advantage of it. Pleasure Craft were the typical Saturday intensity, but that wasn't too big of a deal. Floaties are insane out there right now. Higher water grew tall weeds, normal water turned them into tall grass, and the lifted wake restriction unleashed the lawn mowers...

Did not see a single fish during daylights hours. 20 minutes into moon overhead I popped a very healthy 46" fish on the 2nd revolution of the figure 8. Presentation was a slow rolled super model.

It is worth championing something Hollywood taught me here: I do 2-3 full figure 8s every cast after dark. This fish never would have been caught if I had not been doing this, I would not have even known I had an opportunity.

After a quick release I hit two more spots and then hit the road feeling quite satisfied.

So the past two weeeks have been boom and bust. Went out at night last week for 3 hours, and struck out. Hit Sugar up last Friday and fished late, working a mix of things and also struck out. Last night I got out for a more full outting on the local pond and put a very aggressive 42 in the net on the figure 8.

Nothing beats a fish that just completely loses it in the figure 8. It jumped 3 feet in the air as it smashed my lure on the 2nd revolution, all at boat side. AWESOME!

I have not been getting out nearly as much this year as I have in years past, yet my catch totals are on pace with last season. Why? 75% of my fish have been on the figure 8. In past years these fish would have just been follows. There is a world of difference in doing the 8 right and just going through the motions.

Sugar is a tough lake, especially in the middle of the season. I've worked it pretty hard this year and have moved lots of fish, but they are hard to find and even harder to coax into eating. Couldn't agree more about proper figure eights, makes a world of difference.

I've only been out on Sugar a few times this year, it is usually my "change of pace" lake. I had a nice open water rip during opening weekend that my boat partner lost during the fight. Aside from that I haven't seen a fish out there.

I do plan to hit it a few more times though, I enjoy fishing it.
